Shelley’s birthplace was Kuala Terengganu where her parents escaped to during the World War 2 Japanese occupation of Singapore. Only a few months old when the war ended, her parents returned to Singapore but their strong links with their relatives in Kampong China there remained strong and the family still hold on to the cultural heritage of the food and the arts to this day. Many of the colourful Balek Kampong batik designs were drawn by the local artists whose work Shelley is proud to feature.
